When to make an appointment
Urgent care is for problems that need attention today but are not emergencies. These are the kinds of things worth a same-day visit rather than waiting for a routine appointment.
- An illness that has come on suddenly and is getting worse
- A minor injury you would rather have looked at than leave
- A fever, cough or sore throat that is not settling
- Something that started today and cannot reasonably wait a week
- A rash, sprain or possible infection that has appeared since your last visit
- A flare in a condition you already have that needs attention now
This is not a diagnosis, and the list is not exhaustive. If a symptom is severe, or comes on suddenly, seek emergency care rather than an appointment.
About urgent care
Here at Nation's Best Family Health Care, we know that emergency situations can be overwhelming and scary at times. We also know how important it is to have a provider you trust to assist in these situations.
We are proud to offer urgent care services here in our office, so there is somewhere to go when something comes up today. With same-day appointments, on-site testing, and comprehensive diagnosis and treatment, we are your one-stop shop when you need us most. Walk-ins for urgent care are seen at our 23rd Street office.
Urgent care is not an emergency department. It sits between waiting for a routine appointment and needing emergency services — the sudden illness, the minor injury, the thing that started this morning and is getting worse.
Seen by a practice that already knows you
The difference between urgent care here and urgent care somewhere unfamiliar is what happens afterwards. When the same practice sees you for the acute problem, the visit goes into the chart that already holds your history, your medications and any ongoing conditions. Nothing has to be reconstructed from memory at the front desk.
It also makes the follow-up straightforward. If today's problem turns out to be part of something longer-running, the people managing that are in the same building. If a test needs repeating, or a symptom needs watching over the next few weeks, that is a routine appointment rather than a referral into the unknown.
We know how important it is to have a provider you trust to assist in these situations. Being able to reach that provider on the day the problem starts is most of the value.
What a same-day visit looks like
Call (850) 481-1101 first if you can, so we know you are coming and can tell you what to expect. Walk-ins for urgent care are seen at our 23rd Street office.
The visit starts with what happened: when it began, what has changed since, what you have taken for it, and whether anything like it has happened before. Then an examination focused on the problem. On-site testing means some things can be looked at during the visit rather than after it, and we will tell you what is being tested and why.
From there we talk through what we think is going on and what to do about it, including what should bring you back or prompt you to seek further care. Bring your medication list and a note of anything you are allergic to. If the problem needs following beyond today, the follow-up is arranged before you leave.
