When to make an appointment

Children are seen for more than illness, and most pediatric visits are booked rather than urgent. These are the moments worth calling about, whether or not anything seems wrong right now.

  • Your child is due a well check up or immunizations
  • A school or league has asked for a sports physical
  • An illness is not settling the way you expected it to
  • You have questions about growth, development or behaviour at this age
  • Your child is new to the practice and has no record here
  • Something seems off to you, even if you cannot name it

This is not a diagnosis, and the list is not exhaustive. If a symptom is severe, or comes on suddenly, seek emergency care rather than an appointment.

About pediatric care

Here at Nation's Best Family Health Care, we are proud to provide pediatric care to the little ones of our community. Our family medicine and medical aesthetics physicians specialize in preventing, diagnosing, and treating a variety of health issues in patients of all ages.

Pediatric care is important to ensure the proper development and growth in children. We are your one-stop-shop for all of your child's health care needs. From well check ups and immunizations to sports physicals and treatment for illness, we are here to help your child experience a healthy life.

Because we see patients of all ages, your child's care sits in the same practice as the rest of the family's, which means the family history we already hold is there when it matters.

Why well check ups matter

Much of what pediatric care does is watch a moving target. Children change quickly, and the point of a well check up is to see whether growth and development are following the course they should — not to find something wrong. Most visits confirm that things are on track, which is a useful result in itself.

The visits also build a record. Heights, weights, milestones and immunizations noted over years give a shape that no single appointment can. If something does look off later, there is a history to compare it against.

They are also the natural place for questions. Sleep, eating, behaviour, screens, what is normal for this age and what is worth watching — these come up more easily in a scheduled visit than in a rushed sick appointment, so bring them with you. We strive to create individualized treatment plans for each of our patients as each person has a unique history and unique needs, and children are no exception.

What an appointment looks like

For a well check up, expect measurements, an examination, a look at development against age, a review of the immunizations that are due, and time to talk. Bring your child's immunization record if you have it, along with anything you have been meaning to ask about.

A sports physical is more focused: history, an examination, and the form. Bring whatever form the school or league has given you, filled in as far as you can, and tell the front desk when you book that this is what the visit is for.

A sick visit is narrower again — what started when, what the temperature has been doing, what your child has been eating and drinking, and what you have already given them. Parents notice things a short examination does not, so say what has seemed off even if you cannot name it. Call (850) 481-1101 to book any of these.

Common questions

Anything not answered here is worth asking at your consultation.

What ages do you see?
Patients of all ages, children included. Our family medicine physicians specialize in preventing, diagnosing, and treating a variety of health issues across age groups, so your child can be seen in the same practice as the rest of the family. Call (850) 481-1101 to register a child with us.
Do you do sports physicals?
Yes. Sports physicals sit alongside well check ups, immunizations and treatment for illness as part of the pediatric care we offer. Bring whatever form the school or league requires, and mention when you book that the appointment is for a physical so that enough time is set aside.
What is a well check up for?
It is a visit made while your child is well, used to check that development and growth are on track and to keep immunizations current. Pediatric care is important to ensure the proper development and growth in children, and these visits are how that gets followed over time rather than in one sitting.
Can my child and I be seen the same day?
Usually. Being a one-stop-shop for the whole family is much of the point, so ask the front desk when you call whether the appointments can be arranged together. It saves a second trip, and both sets of notes get updated at once.
What should I bring?
Your child's immunization record if you have one, any forms that need completing, a list of medications including anything over the counter, and your questions written down. If your child has been seen elsewhere, records or a summary from that practice help us start from the right place.
