Roman Nation, MD
Dr. Roman Nation is a board certified Family Medicine Physician who practices a unique style of comprehensive medicine. He has served in the US Air Force as an astronautical engineer and a family medicine physician. Dr. Nation is a University of Southern California graduate with a degree in aerospace engineering. He spent 6 years in the US Air Force as a satellite and test engineer before going to medical school at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. He completed a Family Medicine Residency at Travis AFB, CA and has lived in Panama City since 2007. Dr. Nation encourages patients to take control of their health and their health care. He has a strong background in traditional family medicine and has been pursuing studies with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (www.a4m.org) to provide a very personalized blend of classic and newer therapies. He wants patients to live as healthy and happily as possible.
Merrilyn Nelson, DO
Dr. Merrilyn Nelson is Board Certified in Family Medicine. She obtained her medical degree from the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. She also served in the US Navy as both a Flight Surgeon and a Family Medicine Physician. Dr. Nelson completed her residency training at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. A fun fact about Dr. Nelson is that she loves to bake!
Julia Niehl, PA-C
Julia Niehl PA-C was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. As such, she is an avid Pittsburgh Penguins fan. She completed an internship at NBFHC in September 2016, and she decided to join our team in September 2017. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biology in May 2015, and she went on to obtain her Master’s of Physician Assistant Studies in July 2017. Julia is also an enthusiastic reader, and loves spending time reading on the beach. She also loves to travel and bake.
Sheryl Jernigan, ARNP-BC
Nurse practitioner Sheryl Jernigan began her career in healthcare as a Registered Nurse in 1988. She received both her Baccalaureate Degree and Master’s Degree in nursing from Troy University. She is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Sheryl spent the majority of her thirty years of nursing experience working in various fields including CCU, ER, Cardiology, and Case Management. While she lived in Newton, Alabama, she came to Panama City in 2018 where she joined Nation’s Best Family Health Care. She and her husband, Ken, have one child. They enjoy traveling, camping, and support the Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama.
Dan Prentice, PA
Dan Prentice has a wide range of medical experience acquired over nearly thirty years of being in the field. He began by serving our country as a United States Navy Corpsman, and he later became an Army Medic in which time he decided to pursue his degree to become a Certified Physician Assistant from Alderson-Broaddus College. He has a special interest in orthopedics where he has assisting in countless surgeries. In fact, he was the first assistant for fifty-two surgeons in a six different hospitals. He now uses his expertise at Nation’s Best to help our patients receive the care they need. Dan most commonly sees patients for Occupational Medicine, Workman’s Comp, or Orthopedic medicine.
William Kundo, LMHC
William Kundo’s experience reaches around the world and to the skies above. As a Combat Medic in the U.S. Army and then a Surface Warfare Line Office for the U.S. Navy, Mr. Kundo traveled the world for nearly 3 decades. It was during this time he secured multiple bachelor’s and master’s degrees (3 each) and honed his skills in counseling as both a Pastoral Counselor and Licensed Mental Health Counselor. He joined the NBFHC team in 2015 as we continue to add services to provide total care for our patients. With specific skills in counseling for depression, anxiety, PTSD, addiction, marriage/family counseling, Mr. Kundo also has the unique gift for being a counselor for other counselors and clergy members. While most of the time, patients tend to avoid these problem areas, William’s quiet calmness will be a new found asset to becoming a healthier person in all facets of life. James “JT” Thompson, CSN, MT
JT joined the NBFHC team in 2014 and ignited our nutrition program by adding more than 2 decades of hard core experience in Sports Nutrition and weight
loss. Having trained winners in franchises like Biggest Loser Family, professional athletes, and sports competitors for both body building and bikini contests, JT brings an array of expertise you’ll find in very few places. He’s personally trained NBFHC patients into losing over 2000lbs of fat since he joined our team, and his signature “Emergency Wedding” diet is a sure fire way to shed unwanted pounds in a hurry. Married with 2 children, JT is also an avid outdoorsman. If you’ve got the Bring It On attitude, then make your appointment with JT to become the best you’ve ever been!
Michelle Gautreaux, RD
Michelle is a licensed Registered Dietitian and has been educating patients on healthy eating for 2 decades. Originally from Louisiana, she’s moved to Florida and graduated from Florida State University. She’s worked in a number of clinical settings including public health, homeless centers, and a 6 year stay with the military nutrition program at Tyndall Air Force Base. She’s worked with patients of all types, ages, and medical issues. With such diverse experience, there’s nothing she can’t handle in the world of nutrition and weight loss. As a proud mother of 2, you won’t ever find her unhappy because she’s also a charter member for the Bay County Optimist Club.
